I know what it's like to be in front of the camera. As the son of a Wedding Photographer, growing up I endured (as did my poor brother) evenings, weekends posing as a ‘young groom’ in the garden whilst he tested new cameras and flashes. When I became a photographer too, my experiences helped me to understand not only the technical aspects of creating a good image, but also what put me at ease when being photographed. Very often before the camera appears, I talk to my subjects to build a rapport, and to comfort them if they feel uneasy. Whether I’m photographing a bride and groom, a small child or a director general, making the subject feel relaxed is paramount to a successful photograph. |
